Kay, I thought it would be best to post all of my fanfic here. For safety. Kays?
Prologue
It was a dark and stormy night in the city of Wish. Howling winds blew through the conference buildings that made up the Warriors discussion, the Random Babble Hall, quaint little shops, and the Administration and Archives building. The A&A was usually locked, and no Wisher in their right mind would enter it. But this was an unusual day in Wish.
The four bodies hunched over a small, battery-powered lantern were all tall. Two had ginger hair, one had brown, and one black. They were discussing a matter of grave importance: Blizz, the supreme ruler of Wish, and how she would be taking a hiatus and going to Hawaii for a week.
"So she left? For sure?" the black-haired girl asked the other three cautiously. She was evidently the leader of the small group. "Yes, Sunneth," the brown-haired girl responded. "Good," Sunneth leaned back against one of the crates in the A&A. "We shall be rulers soon, won't we?" asked one of the ginger-haired girls.
"Of course, Firestorm," said Sunneth, through narrowed green eyes that were almost slits. Firestorm swallowed nervously, then tried to hide it by nodding. "There will be a rebellion, though," the brown-haired girl murmered thoughtfully. "The Wishers will obviously oppose our rule."
"Ah, yes Hail, but we can ban the rebels, can we not?" Sunneth mused. Hail still had a flash of worry in her eyes, but it was quickly gone, as Sunneth turned her gaze towards her. "Come, minions," Sunneth said, and stood up. Immediately, the three followers stood. "We must retire to our beds. But tomorrow, we shall rule Wish. And then...the world."
Chapter One
Lightningstreak looked down from over her balcony. She lived in an apartment building that the senior members lived in, despite the fact that she had wandered to the city of Wish only about 8 months ago.
Squirrelflight was down in a tree, as usual. Her red hair matched the tints of the clouds as the sun sank slowly below the horizon.
"Hey, LS!" Squirrelflight called. "What?" Lightningstreak shouted back. LS was one of her nicknames, along with Spazzy, Spazztastic LS, Lightningstreakizzle, and a few others.
"Did you hear the announcement? Blizz is going to Hawaii for a week!" Squirrelflight responded. "What?" Lightningstreak shouted, astonished. Why would Blizz ever leave Ww, even for a trip to Hawaii?
"I think they're doing the last of the announcements at the AS, so you'd better get there quickly!" Her words were lost as Lightninstreak dashed into her apartment, put on a white T-shirt and some blue jeans, and headed toward the AS.
The AS was actually the Announcement Stage, where the recent announcements were broadcast on the Stage there. The Stage had been built long, long ago, possibly even from the legendary Wish1.
At last, Lightningstreak found the AS. She had gotten lost a few times around this area before, and this was no exception.
A large crowd of Wishers were gathered around the Stage. Blizz's blue-streaked hair was shining in the sunset rays. "Wishers, I have good news! I have decided to go on a week-long hiatus to Hawaii!" Most of the Wishers cheered. Blizz continued on "Sunneth and the other mods will stay in charge while I'm away. It'll be just like normal!"
Lightningstreak was puzzled. Blizz usually wasn't this happy or care-free, unless she was planning something. Just as she was about to say something to Pine, another Wishers on her left, the crowd suddenly parted, revealing a guest. He had no nametag, short dark brown hair, and ice-blue eyes.
"Wishers! Do not listen! Sunneth is going to take over Ww in Blizz's absence! The city of Wish will be in turmoil! Those who defy will be banned for li--" He was suddenly cut off as Hail and Firestar gagged him and dragged him off. Pine rolled her eyes. "Nutjob," she said, annoyed. "Yes, a nutjob," Lightningstreak agreed.
But what if all he had said was true? What if the mods really would take over?
Chapter Two
Sunneth looked up from her desk. Sh was in the Wish Jail, built for banned members to live out their days, or at least until their ban was over. In the cell in front of her, the guest she had captured stood in front of her, glaring. She glared back through her green eyes. it was time for her to ask some questions.
She stood up and walked to the guest. After Hail and Firestar had dragged him to the cell, he was knocked unconscious. Now he looked bedraggled, limp, but most of all, irritated.
"Who are you?" Sunneth hissed to the guest. "I am a mystery, and someone you should know quite well," he replied, shrugging. The guest also smiled, showing perfect white, straight teeth.
"What made you think that me and the mods would 'take over'?" she asked, although it was obvious she wouldn't be answered. The guest made no response, as Sunneth had guessed. Each day, she had tried to ask him the same questions, and even with no food, he still hadn't given in.
Sunneth waved a warm loaf of bread right in front of the prisoner's face. He still showed no sign of giving in. "I will meet with you later," Sunneth said irritably, annoyed that her prisoner still hadn't given her any information. She walked down to the deepest, darkest, and dankest cell in the Wish Jail. In it was a lump that could barely be described as human.
The prisoner raised her head, the blue streaks just barely shining. "You'll...you'll never get away..with this," she said in a hoarse whisper. "I'll...escape...someday."
Sunneth turned and faced the prisoner. "No, Blizz," she whispered. "The Wishers will never find out about my plan, and if they do, it will be too late." She touched the pale face lightly with one finger. "I sent your replacement to Hawaii, but she'll never. Come. Back."
The face turned up. "What have you done, Sunneth? I thought I could trust you!" "Back then, maybe, but not now. Not now," Sunneth said in a deathly quiet voice.
Sunneth left Blizz there, and walked back to her makeshift headquarters in the A&A. It was time for a take-over.
Chapter Three
After the mysterious guest had been taken away from the AS, nobody thought about it much more, except for a few of the other guests, but no one cared about them. Often times, there were small riots in front of the big office building in downtown Wish where the mods worked, but they were often shooed away in a few minutes.
Days passed, then a week. The Wishers were looking forward to Blizz arriving back, but they waited at the dock in vain. Blizz didn't come back that day, or the next, or the next. It was a month after Blizz had left that the mods called an announcement.
"It has come to our attention that Blizz has been gone for one month," said Sunneth through a microphone at the AS. She stepped aside as Hail stepped up to the mic, her brown hair shining golden in the noontime rays. "It is evident that she will never come back!" she called to the crowd.
Gasps of surprise was the main sound in the AS after that statement, along with a few people fainting from shock. They were quickly taken to the nearby hospital as Firestorm continued the announcement. "We have decided that in her place, Sunneth will be leading administrator."
More gasps of surprise. Never, ever, in the entire history of Wish had a mod replaced an admin. "What's going on?" Dreampaw whispered to Lightningstreak, who was on her left. Lightningstreak just shrugged. She didn't know. Firestar stepped up to the mic. She was usually quiet, and this was no exception.
"Hail, Firestorm, and I will still be mods," she quietly said. In normal circumstances, she would have been barely loud enough to hear, but the added effects of the mic caused a few more faints. Scarynose, on LS's left, whispered to LS, "I hope that Blizz comes back. This is, well..." He left off, not sure how to finish the sentence.
"Scary?" Gloompace turned around from her seat in front of them. "I guess," LS nodded. She still wasn't sure what to do. Blizz, her ultimate role-model, was missing, possibly forever, and the mods had taken over Ww. LS hid her head in her hands. Could it really get any worse?
Chapter Four
Lightningstreak looked around. She was in front of Gloometh's shop. At night. She shook her head, exasperated. Would any of the other senior members in her apartment gotten pulled into this?
Around noon, when she had plopped back into her apartment, after being in a hot debate on whether Sol would train Hollypaw into manipulating other cats' minds, (actually, she had been the one who started the idea) she saw a small square of paper on the ground. It had been on her bed, but had fluttered down to the floor when she leaped onto the bed.
Lightningstreak looked at the note. You have been chosen to meet with other selected members in front of Gloometh's shop at 10:00 pm, Wish Standard Time. Be there. The note had no signature, no invisible writing, and the paper was of a normal variety.
So there she was, under a dimly glowing streetlamp, in front of Gloometh's shop. Suddenly, she heard small steps behind her. Lightningstreak whirled around, expecting a cloaked firgure with a bloody knife, but instead saw only Dreampaw. The two had been friends ever since Dreampaw came to Wish, which was soon after Lightningstreak.
"LS! W-what are you doing here?" Dreampaw said. "I...don't know," LS responded. Something was real fishy, and it wasn't the fish shop next to Gloometh's.
Before Dreampaw had a chance to respond, three more figures stepped into the small pool of light that the streetlamp shed. They were Pine, Scarynose, and Squirrelflight. So some seniors did get pulled into...whatever this is, Lightningstreak thought. If there were three people here who lived in the senior apartments, then it must be something big.
"Hey, guys! What's up?" Scarynose asked. His hair glowed orange in the streetlamp's wake, as did everyone else's. "LS? You the one organizing this whole thing?" Pine asked sleepily. LS could see that she had just woken up, probably by Squirrelflight.
"No, I don't know who is." LS responded. Two more shadows crossed the pool of lamplight as Moonpelt and Gloometh herself stepped up. "Hi, Moon! Hi, Gloometh!" Scarynose cheerily said. Moonpelt replied with an almost as cheery "Hi!" and Gloometh didn't respond.
Suddenly, a masked figure strode up to the group out of the gloom. None of the figure's body or face could be seen, except for two piercing blue eyes. "I don't have much time," he said. At least, they thought it was a he. The voice seemed familiar, somehow. "But I must warn you. Not all is as it seems. There will be a rebellion against those whom you trusted most." He swiveled his eyes around the group, setting his gaze on one at a time for a moment. His eyes last came to Lightningstreak. He quickly pulled his gaze back. "The one with lightning in her name, nature and heart shall lead the rebellion," he finally declared. And, just as soon as he came, he ran off into the night shadows.
Chapter Five
After the masked figure had run away, the motley group was in turmoil. "We CAN'T have a rebellion; we'll get banned!" exclaimed Dreampaw. "But we have too, the guy told us to!" said Scarynose. Away from the two members arguing over whether or not to have a rebellion, Squirrelflight and Pinefur. were debating who the masked figure was talking about when he said who would lead the rebellion.
"Well, if he said that it was the one with lightning in their name, then that rules out everyone but the few people with 'lightning' in their name." said Squirrelflight. Under the glow of the light, her hair was a dark gingery-orange. "Yea, but what if he meant just the letters in 'lightning', not the actual word?" Pinefur argued. "I don't think so, if this guy really meant it, I don't think he would make it hard to figure out." Squirrelflight said thoughtfully.
And, over in another spot lighted by the streetlamp, Moonpelt and Gloometh were thinking about why the guy was so familiar. "I think we've seen him before," Gloometh said quietly. "Probably. Let's think about the memorable qualities of this guy," Moonpelt replied. "Well, he had really blue eyes," put in Gloometh. "Right, right. And he was a boy," Moonpelt added.
LS was standing in a corner of Gloometh's shop, away from the others. She was quietly watching them bicker and debate. And then, like a brick hitting her in the forehead, she knew who was supposed to lead the rebellion. Who the masked figure was. And even possibly how the two were connected.
She immediately jumped up onto a stray box, and said, in as loud of a voice as possible without being heard, "Guys, stop arguing! I figured it out!" Everyone rushed over to the box she was standing on. "What? What?" asked Dreampaw impatiently. "Okay, so, first of all, that guy? The masked figure? Well, he had ice-blue eyes, right?" LS said.
"Right..." said Scary. "But why is that significant?" "Can you think of anyone really major in the history of Wish that had ice-blue eyes?" There was silence, then Squirrelflight said quietly, "HF? HF is the one that we saw?"
The silence was broken by the arguing of the group. "HF was evil!" Moonpelt said defiantly. "Or...was he?" said Pinefur quietly. Silence finally fell again as each member thought long and hard about whether HF was really behind it, and whether or not to trust him.
Gloometh padded up. "I think we should trust HF," she said in a voice that could barely be heard, even in the silence of night. Pinefur, Scary, and Squirrelflight immediately said "I agree with Gloometh," at the same time. "I don't know..." said Moonpelt. Dreampaw stepped over to her. "What's the worse that can happen?" she said to Moonpelt. Moonpelt said, "Alright."
"Now that that's settled, who's the one who's supposed to lead this rebellion?" asked Dreampaw, again, impatiently. "I can answer that too," LS said in a barely discerned whisper. "I am."
Chapter Six
"What?" Squirrelflight cried out, after the shocking silence had passed. "What?" she cried incredulously again.
"Squirrel, it's true. HF said the one who would lead the rebellion would be the one with lightning in their name, nature, and heart." LS calmly explained.
"Well, I for one believe that LS and HF were both telling the truth." Scary implemented. Squirrelflight sighed.
"I guess you're right," she admitted. "But this is so hard to believe. I mean, HF coming and helping us?" she said.
"I know it's hard to believe, but it's true." LS quietly said.
"Now all we need to figure out is who we're supposed to rebel against. Did you figure that out too, LS?" Moonpelt said snidely.
"Sorry, no." LS said, ignoring the sarcasm in Moonpelt's voice.
"HF said it would be against who we trusted most...Who do we trust?" Pine said.
"This group?" Dreampaw put in.
"Well, I don't think any one of us would rebel against each other..." LS said.
"Blizz?" Scary added.
"She's on hiatus." Squirrelflight said sadly. She had been basically best friends with Blizz before she disappeared.
"The mods?" Moonpelt said.
"THAT'S IT!" Scary exclaimed. "They're who we trust most. They technically took over since Blizz disappeared--"
"But what if Blizz didn't disappear?" LS interrupted. "What if she was taken captive by the mods?"
"And there's only one place here prisoners go..." Gloometh said.
"THE JAIL!" everyone exclaimed at once.
"By the way, guys, be at my 13th birthday party tomorrow, okay?" Gloometh added, giving invitations to everyone.
Nobody saw the person hiding behind the trashcan, eavesdropping to all of the group's exclamations. Quickly, she rushed back the the A&A, where Sunneth was standing. "Sunneth..." she panted. "They've caught onto us..."
"Very well," Sunneth said coldly. "We shall be at Gloometh's party tomorrow." she whispered in a deathly cold voice.
Chapter Seven
Lightningstreak woke, groggy. She realized that she was in a dark, dank cell. Why am I--Oh. Right. As she lied there in the silence of the prison cell, she reflected on why exactly she was there.
It had been a wonderful day on Gloometh's 13th birthday party. The weather was perfect. Everyone came. And LS even remembered to get a good present. It was perfect. Until the mods crashed the party.
The mods. they had come in full force, with their handcuffs and guard dogs and God knew what else. They had come, handcuffed all of the members involved in the meeting of a few nights before, and took them to the jail. Everyone knew someone had told. But who?
Lightningstreak looked all of the possibilities over. It couldn't be Pine or Squirrelfight, as they were LS's best friends, and she knew them too well. It couldn't be Dreampaw or Scarynose. LS knew Dreampaw too well also, and Scary had supported her from the beginning. Not Gloometh. She wouldn't want to crash her own party. Not Moonpelt. Even she wouldn't snitch on her friends.
Light came shafting through a small crack in the door, and LS squinted her eyes as one of the jail guards said gruffly, "New inmate for you." He tossed a small, limp bundle into the cell, and then the door closed. Lightningstreak looked at the small body, and gathered a few facts. Firstly, it was a girl. Secondly, she had been treated very harshly, wherever she came from. Thirdly, she had blue-streaked hair--Wait.
"It couldn't be," LS whispered in disbelief. But it was her. Blizz. A few hours later, Blizz woke up, as groggy as LS had been when she had woken up. LS peered at her.
"L-lightningstreak? T-that you?" she asked. Her voice was hoarse from screaming, long ago.
"Yes. It's me, Blizz." LS whispered back, her voice just as hoarse.
"W-why are you h-here?" Blizz said quietly.
"I...I was organizing a rebellion. Against the mods. But then someone snitched on us--"
"Us? There were," Blizz yawned, "more?"
"Yes. Me, Squirrelfight, Pine, Moonpelt, Scarynose, Dreampaw and Gloometh." LS responded
"But...who told you?" Blizz's voice was barely heard over the moaning wind from outside.
LS glanced at Blizz. It couldn't hurt to tell her, she decided. "HF." she declared.
Blizz was about to say something, when a small burst of light came from the ceiling. A cheery face leaned down. "Well, then, what are you doing down there? You need to lead the rebellion!" Scarynose called from the sky above.
Chapter Eight
LS opened her mouth, closed it, then opened it again. "What the--How, Scary? How?"
Scary smiled cheerfully. "Oh, there was a crack in the wall of the cells aboveground. From there, it was a simple matter of freeing every single prisoner, so that we can have a larger force. After all, they all pretty much hate the mods."
"Scary--" LS started, but then realized the genius of his plan. "Scary, you're a GENIUS!" she shouted.
"Why, thank you for the compliment. Now, let's get you out of there," Scary said brightly.
After they had helped LS and Blizz climb out, Dreampaw cried in shock, "BLIZZ?!"
Squirrelflight immediately pushed to the front. "B-blizz?" she whispered, barely heard. "Yeah." Blizz hoarsely said back. The two long-time separated friends embraced each other.
Meanwhile, away from all of the heart-warming junk, Scary and LS were talking about what had happened while LS had been prisoner in her dark cell. "Well, for one thing, the mods really did take over," Scary said. "And Pepper's now the slave of Hail."
LS shot him a stupefied look. "I thought they were best friends," she said, shocked and horrified.
"Well, they are, sorta. It's just that Hail orders Pepper around more," Pine implemented, as she was passing by.
"Ohh. What else has happened?" LS said.
"A bunch of people have been banished, too, for riots and outbreaks. The mods are in complete control," Scary responded, after a long pause.
"Like who?" LS asked, frightened if some of her friends had been banished. This was the punishment for the worst possible crime. Sometimes, if the crime was severe enugh, you would be banished forever.
"I don't think that many people," Scary said. "Of course, we were the first ones to be banished, but now we have a little help from the inside," Scary replied.
"Who?" LS asked.
Before Scary could reply, a girl with red hair stepped over to LS and Scary. She had been mainly standing on the outer edge of the group, not talking to anyone. "Me," the girl said quietly. "Me, Firestorm."
Chapter Nine
LS opened her mouth silently. Scary grinned. "Firestorm's agreed to help us with the rebellion. She'll be supplying us with inside information of what the mods are going to be doing."
"That's right," Firestorm said cheerfully. "I could also help you find out who ratted on you--"
"WHAT?!" LS shouted. Clearly, she was not stupefied by the appearance of Firestorm anymore. "Scary, did you tell her everything?" she demanded.
Scary lowered his head and quietly said, "Yea."
LS seemed about to give him a good lecture, but then sighed. "Well, I suppose it was a good idea." she reluctantly said, after a pause.
Firestorm smiled. "We've already figured out that it isn't anyone in your group." Her smile faded away. "Someone must have been eavesdropping on you when you were talking near Gloometh's shop."
LS nodded. "That seems logical," she determined. "But who could it be?"
Firestorm said, "Judging by how near the mod's base and the apartments are to the Shops area, it had to be either one of the mods themselves, or someone who lived in the apartments. Those apartments are mainly the home of people who have been here...about three to six months."
LS snapped her fingers. "Of course! It must have been one of those newbish newbs that fangirl the senior members. But who?"
Pine stepped up to the threesome. "Since you were speaking of it, how near is the mod's base? If we train hard enough, perhaps we can go there and maybe...oust the mods." she said quietly.
LS gave her a blank stare, then realization crept slowly into her brain. "Pine, you're a GENIUS! An EPIC, EPIC GENIUS!" She hugged Pine for about two seconds, then stepped on a stray box and called everyone together.
After everyone had settled, she said, "Okay, Pine just had a great idea. Those of you who are trained in the art of fighting with weapons or without--" She glanced at Scary, Firestorm, and Squirrelflight. "You'll need to train people. We're going to attack the mods' base, oust them, and then Blizz will be back in power. Who's with me?"
The chorus of "I's" was faint in the distance when a body ran from behind a crate to the mod's base. The figure was faintly visible in the darkening light, and soon reached the A&A. Hail was standing outside. "So Firestorm's turned traitor, eh?" she said, after the figure had reported what was seen and heard. "Well, we don't need her. And the little twerps are planning to fight against us and win? We'll see about that." She smirked as the sun slipped over the horizon, bringing a new night, and endless possibilities.
Chapter Ten
LS was walking briskly around the small camp they had made, outside of Wish. Once out there, the mods had no power over them, as their weapons only worked in the city. Plus, Firestorm had a key to open the gates, so they could get more food and water, when need be.
Squirrelflight was busily sparring with Moonpelt with no weapons each. As LS looked beyond them, she saw Scarynose teaching Adder, one of the freed ones from the jail, how to use a double-bladed battle axe. Next to them, Ripplepelt, another of the freed, was having a duel of swords with Dreampaw. LS stepped over to her just as Dreampaw stuck the point of her sword to Ripple's neck. "Checkmate," she said cheerfully.
Ripple nodded. "You have learned a lot, Dreampaw," she acknowledged. "Go and spar swords with Pine now. She's more advanced." As Dreampaw ran away ecstatically, LS stood in front of Ripple. "Hiya, LS!" Ripple said, grinning. "Need to talk with me?"
"No, I was just wondering if I could duel with you. Even I need to practice." LS said, a little embarrassed to be dueling such an experienced Wisher.
Ripple smiled from ear to ear. "Sure, LS. Just take this sword." She gave LS an old, dusty sword, with a yellow stone in the hilt, and a leather sheath. "I'm sure glad Firestorm is stealing these weapons for us to practice with," she remarked, as LS fastened the sheath to her belt.
"Of course. Everyone's happy." LS said, tying a last knot to her belt, then leaning up. "There, I'm ready." she finally said.
"Well, then, let's get started. On guard!" Ripple shouted the last two words as she thrust her sword towards LS's neck. LS easily parried, and as they dueled, parry, thrust, parry, she said, "Can't beat me yet, can you?"
"Well, it's just that I'm left-handed." Ripple said. As she parried one of LS's thrusts, she switched her sword to her left hand.
"Ohhoho!" LS said brightly, as Ripple dueled harder. "This is what I call a challenge."
Finally, LS thrusted, and Ripple's reflexes were too slow. The point of her sword just barely touched Ripple's neck. "Check and mate." she declared, after letting her sword droop to her side.
Ripple smiled. "Well, ya won. Go on out and play the master now." The master, AKA Firestorm, was pretty much the master of every single weapon they had. LS had no idea how she did it, but it was still epic.
LS stepped over to Firestorm, feeling that nothing could go wrong the next week, when they would start recruiting members in Wish for their army. The Wish Rebels.
Chapter Eleven
The following evening, LS called everyone beside the campfire, in the center of their tents. The campsite was pretty much normal, with about 10 tents, with 2 or 3 people sleeping in each. As everyone crowded around the fabled box where LS had met HF, LS started speaking. "Well, it's been good times, everyone. Would you agree?"
Everyone said 'Yes.' at that question. "Everyone's been trained in the ways of combat, to at least the Intermediate level?" Once again, a chorus of 'Yes's.' LS grinned. "Great. We'll be ready for any attack of the mods when we're recruiting others in Wish."
At that, everyone started shouting and asking questions. "Who's gonna go?" "Why are we recruiting them?" "I WANT MY MOMMY!"
"SHADDUP, ALL OF YOU!" LS shouted. "I have picked a small band of three or four to go, with me, into Wish. Firestorm, Scarynose, Dreampaw, Ripplepelt, you'll go with me. The rest will stay here. We're recruiting them for more people in our army. It was originally Briar's idea--" she glanced at Briar, one of the freed from jail, "to recruit Wishers. With the mods ruling with an iron fist, everyone must hate it. Does that leave any other questions?"
Everyone was silent. LS cheerfully smiled. "Good. Keep training until the moon's about 45 degrees high, or halfway to moonhigh. By that time's it'll be about 10 pm. Now go!"
Immediately, everyone ran off, scattering. When the dust cleared, the only people left were Scary, Ripple, Dreampaw and Firestorm. LS stepped down to meet them. Scary said, "So...right, what are we supposed to do?" "I think we should scatter ourselves about. Wishers have, no doubt, seen posters or the like up by the mods, telling them to kill us or some disastrous end." Dreampaw interrupted. "Well, that is a good idea, Dreamery." LS said.
Ripple brightly said, "We should take disguises, shouldn't we? I mean, what if a mod sees us?" "Well, I don't think we'll need them. The method is to stand in an alley. then wait for someone to walk by. You can figure out the rest, I suppose." LS said. Ripple looked a little downcast. "But I wanted a costume."
"Aww, Ripple..." LS cooed. "Well, you can have a costume, if you want. But you have to find it yourself." As Ripple ran off, LS said to the rest of the group, "Right, any questions?" All was silent. "Great. See you next week." she said cheerily.
Chapter Twelve
It was the day LS and the band would go into town. Everyone was excited to learn anything new of Wish, and also if their friends would come and join the Wish Rebel Army, currently 20 to 30 people strong. The army had picked up a few stragglers who had been banished to the outskirts of Wish, and whos help was most welcome. Included was Mistybrook, who was banned because she was Gloometh's sister.
LS was just getting ready, when someone stepped up to her. The body was wearing a big, fluffy purple hat, a pink feather boa, and...wait, no that was just Ripple in her outrageous costume. She had gotten in ready the night after LS told her she could, and had made it as un-like her as possible. Overall, LS thought it was fine, once you got past the huge purple hat.
Ripple stepped up to LS.
"Hi!" Ripple said brightly. "Do you like my costume?"
LS smiled. "It's totally unlike you and I think it looks horrible. That means that it's a great costume!"
Ripple grinned. "Lawl, LS. You're so funny."
Just then, Scary came over, in his usual jeans and black long-sleeved shirt. He was grinning like Ripple. "Something tells me nothing will go wrong today." he said cheerfully.
Dreampaw stepped over to the merry group. "HEYA, GUYS!!" she shouted. LS fell to the ground. "Oh, are you alright, LS?" Dreampaw questioned. She giggled. "I didn't know my shout was powerful enough to throw down the General of the Wish Rebel Army!" The title had been unanimously awarded to LS two days before.
Firestorm padded over, her steps light and easy. "Well, that's settled then," she said. "Let's go!"
The happy band of Rebels stepped to the gates. Firestorm inserted the key into the previously unlocked rusty gates of Wish. All was quiet as they stepped into the city. It was early morning, so no doubt the rest of Wish was asleep. Stopping at the now-familiar Gloometh's shop, LS whispered, "Okay, Ripple and I will head to the senior member's apartments. Scary, you and Dreampaw head over to the apartments for 3-6 month-old Wishers. Firestorm, you head to the 1-3 month Wishers' apartments. Good?"
The rest of the five nodded silently. LS had gone over the plan countless times before. LS smiled. "Great. meet back here at 5 pm, and bring the recruits. Then, we'll head out. Let's go!" She and Ripple ran off to the senior's apartments, looking just all the merrier on that fine day.
Chapter Thirteen
LS and Ripple looked around. Some wary-looking Wishers were coming out of the senior apartments, including Milkeh, one of LS's best friends. She gasped as she saw LS, and ran over quickly. "OHMIGOSH, LS!!" she squealed.
LS gave her her best glare. "Milkeh, you have to be quiet!" she whispered. "Not everyone is friends with me, and we have something to tell you." She drew the astonished member into a nearby alley, and told her everything that had happened, from when they had met near Gloometh's shop for the first time, to the crashed party, to the camp outside Wish. Milkeh opened her jaw a little more at periodic intervals in the telling.
When LS was finally finished, Milkeh said incredulously, "Wow, so you really met HF? And you escaped Jail?"
LS and Ripple nodded. Milkeh turned around. "WOAH WHO'S--" but before completing her sentence LS had put her hand over Milkeh's mouth. "Shaddup, that's Ripplepelt with her disguise." LS hissed. Milkeh nodded. LS smiled. "Now, let's go and find some more Wishers!"
Scarynose looked around. All was quiet on the 3-6 month member front. He looked back at Dreampaw, and almost jumped out of his skin when he saw her right behind him. She grinned. "Scared you, didn't I?"
Scary grinned back. "Course you did. You scare everyone, Dream. But right now, we need to recruit Wishers."
Just then, four Wishers stepped up to them. Scary could barely recognize them under all the dirt and grime, but they were Lilypool, Flamefrost, Patch and Loudpaw. Flamefrost stepped up to Scary and Dreampaw. "You're Scarynose and Dreampaw, right?" she asked.
"Uhh...no." Dreampaw replied anxiously.
Lilypool interrupted, "Don't worry, we won't hurt you. We just want to be a part of your army!"
Scary and Dream dropped their jaws consecutively. After the shock had died down, Scary said, "How did you know?!"
Flamefrost smiled brightly. "Because there's a snoop following you around everywhere and reporting back to the mods. The mods know about the war you're planning, and they're forcing us to learn how to fight. We're all on the advanced level."
Loudpaw stepped in. "But we don't want to fight for the mods. Nobody does. We already got pretty much all of the 3-6 month members. COME ON OUT, GUYS!" she hollered.
Immediately, another thirty to fifty people stepped from behind hiding places. Scary grinned from ear to ear. "Well, that was convenient."
Chapter Fourteen
Firestorm looked carefully around. There was nobody in sight around the 1-3 month Wishers' apartments. It was quiet. Too quiet... Firestorm observed carefully. She was thinking of just going back, but something stopped her. Remember the mission.
Suddenly, three figures came walking up. Firestorm immediately recognized them as TZ, RF and Aspire, but they were all senior members. What were they doing in this section of Wish?
The 1-3 month Wishers were fondly called "newbs" by the older folk of the city. TZ was the starter of this tradition, and well familiar with it. She and the two others stopped in front of Firestorm. TZ grinned. "Heya, Firestorm! Didn't see you under all that muck." Firestorm had covered herself in dirt and grime, lest someone capture her. There was a hefty ransom reward for all of those who had gone to the Wish Rebel Army.
"Look who's talking!" Firestorm retorted. It had been a thing that TZ and Firestorm had done before the Take-Over, as it was called in Wish. They had greeted one another, then start firing insults at each other.
Aspire was serious, though. "Look, Fire. We want to join your army. Yes, we know about it." She smiled at Firestorm's open mouth. "I suppose you did realize there's a snoop following you all around?" She raised an eyebrow.
Firestorm frowned. "Of course. Whoever it is, they must be under a lot of pay from the other mods if they're willing to keep tracking us for so long."
Aspire brightly smiled. "Speaking of the mods, I 'found' this." She took out a long, thin sword, with a green stone in the silver hilt. Firestorm stood, once again, with an open mouth. "B-b-but that's SUNNETH'S SWORD! HOW DID YOU GET THAT?!" she screeched.
The others were as shocked as Firestorm. Aspire took it all lightly, and frowned slightly. "You don't want to know." she said seriously.
RF grinned. "Can I be in the army? Can I? Can I?" She bounced around Firestorm, waiting for a response. Firestorm grinned even more. "Of course. You all can. Let me just explain everything..."
Lightningstreak, with Ripplepelt and Milkeh, looked around at the meeting place. It was 5 pm on the nose. Where was everyone else?
Suddenly, Scarynose and Dreampaw stepped up, along with about fifty recruits behind them. He smiled at LS's astonishment. "What can I say? They came willingly."
Firestorm then padded over to the recruits and the band. "I didn't get that many people, but Aspire here--" She gestured to Aspire behind her, "--somehow managed to steal Sunneth's prized sword." Aspire and Firestorm both grinned at LS opening her mouth, closing it, and then opening it again.
LS moaned. "And all I got was Milkeh...Not to say you're not useful, Milkeh!" she hastily said, as Milkeh expression turned sour.
LS said to the rest of the group, "I'm sure we're all going to do our part in fighting this war. If we lose, we face tyranny and submission. If we win, we face freedom and joy, for the first time since the Take-Over. Now, who's with me?" As everyone shouted their agreement, two figures scuttled from behind nearby boxes, rushing towards the A&A, which had been recently renovated into the perfect HQ for the mods.
Chapter Fifteen
Sunneth smiled as her two spies told her everything that had happened at the meeting at the Gate. However, when the spies got to the part where Aspire revealed Sunneth's sword, they stopped abruptly. "You tell her." one whispered. " No, you."
Sunneth frowned. "What is the meaning of this?" she demanded of the cowering spies. "Whatever it is, tell me NOW!" she shouted in the cavernous room. The three were in the massive ballroom that Sunneth had installed, as she thought it was more...stately.
Sunneth was planning things for Wish. Not just things like enslaving them all. Oh no. She wanted to make a profit, too. So she would start building a factory, that made cheap merchandise for anything. Of course, she and the other mods wouldn't do the work. The Wishers would do it, except for those traitors. They would get...special treatment.
The power-hungry moderator was catapulted back to the present when one of the spies announced, "Well, General Mam, it's just that...your sword has been..stolen."
Sunneth stared in shock at the two spies, but then recovered herself. "Stolen? STOLEN?!" she shreed to the skies. The two spies, cowering at her feet, nodded.
Sunneth frowned again. "Well, don't just stand there. GO GET THAT SWORD!" she cried. The two agents ran off immediately. Sunneth laid back against a couch and relaxed. "Those rebels think they stand a chance? Ha!" she muttered.
Lightningstreak looked around the camp. The new recruits were doing well. They sparred almost as well as the ones from Jail, and some Wishers were even beginning to challenge the original Wishers who had started it all. Almost all of the original band had been challenged by a recruit. All except herself.
Surely there must be some Wisher capable to fight me. Even I'm not as good as the mods. she thought to herself. Suddenly, she snapped her fingers. "I've got the perfect idea." she murmered.
LS climbed to the top of the official Announcement Box. Some said it was the box on which she stood and addressed the original Band, and called them together to form the rebellion.
"All right, everyone listen up!" she shouted. All activity suddenly stopped. Not a sound was heard. Even the wind stopped blowing, as if it was listening to LS too. "I've decided that, in order for there to be some motivation for the fighting, we'll hold a contest for who can fight the best. I, along with two others, will decide who will be in the match. The final winner goes against me." There was a collective gasp from the crowd. LS only grinned. "Yea, you heard me right. I've had no challenges, and I'm hankering for a good, down-to-earth person to battle with. Tomorrow, there will be a box here. Just fill out your name and place it in the box. Now, back to your activities!"
Chapter Sixteen
Lightningstreak emptied the box in which the slips had been cast. Scarynose and Squirrelflight stood around her. LS would pull out a slip, read the name, and they would agree on whether or not that person should be in the tournament.
At that moment, LS drew a slip and called out, "TZ." Scarynose made a "Pfft." noise, and Squirrelflight said, "Well, of course!"
LS stood. "Hmm...how about we let them all join in? I mean, there would be a subtraction from troop morale if we didn't..." She left off, saying the last words in her mind, ...and there would be more of a chance of people good enough to fight me.
Scary and Squirrel shrugged. "Sure."
LS said, "Great. I'll go make the announcement." She stepped out of the tent, having high hopes for her troops.
~~
The two spies crouched under a large box. Sunneth hadn't even given them time to put on a coat, and in the freezing weather of winter, they shivered. "I don't know what's gotten into her. We haven't received our weekly wages in a month." one spy whispered to the other.
Suddenly, there was a clunking on top of the box. The two agents of the despicable mod froze. The same thought was passing through each of their minds. Have we been found?
But no; it was only LS. Ironically, the spies had climbed under the Announcement Box. They heard her shout, "All to the Announcement Box!" and also heard the stamping of people running to the box.
"Attention everyone. Me, Scary, and Squirrel have decided that all of you will participate in the tournament!" There was a loud cheering outside the box. Terrified, one spy hiccuped, which everyone could clearly hear. All was silent, and the two spies frozen again. LS frowned, and said, "I think we've found our spy." She got off the box, lifted it...and saw the spies.
Roughly dragging them to the top of the box, she stood aside, and let the gasps wash over. For these spies were none other than...
Heatfur and WinterMynt.
Chapter Seventeen
More gasps washed over the embarrassed spies. LS and the original Band only glared at them, nothing more. There were chants of "Kill them! Kill them!" encircling the Wish Rebels. Aspire stepped closer to the two traitors and held the stolen sword against their necks. "Drop. Your. Weapons." she demanded. All the agents dropped were a few small daggers.
The "Kill them!" chants were becoming even louder. Aspire glanced at LS. "Should I do it?" she barely whispered into the wind, only heard by LS. LS gave an almost imperceptible nod. The crowd roared, "KILL THEM! KILL THEM!"
Suddenly, Pinefur ran up to the Announcement Box. "Don't kill them!" she shouted. LS and Aspire raised their eyebrows. The crowd of famished-for-blood armygoers yelled, "BOO!" at her. But Pine continued,
"These agents. It's not their fault that they're spying for Sunneth. Sunneth probably pays them much. Whenever they accepted the job, at the very beginning, it must have seemed...normal. And for a very high pay wage, too. We could use these spies to our own advantage, by sending them both back to Sunneth and giving her false information, but giving us info about what's going on at Mod HQ."
LS nodded again. "We could do that." She looked at the two spies. "Would you want to do that?" she asked them.
Heatfur stood up. After a pause, she said, "...Yes. Yes, I would." WinterMynt agreed.
LS and Pinefur grinned. "Well, then, what information should we give the mods now, I suppose?" Pinefur said, quite evilly.
~~
Hail looked around at her post. She was guarding the Mod HQ from intruders, and watching for Sunneth's spies. Although she was thinking about quite less trivial matters.
Why is Firestorm away so often? And why does Sunneth seems so...detached lately? We haven't gotten nearly to the vision of greatness Sunneth told us about so long ago. she thought silently.
Suddenly, the two spies themselves stepped up to the doors. "We need to see...Sunneth." Heatfur panted. Hail only grimaced. Sunneth had said once the rebellion was taken care of, these two slimeballs were to be thrown in the dungeons.
Hail sighed, and roughly said, "Go ahead. I'll accompany you there." As the agents and Hail stepped into the warm hallway of Mod HQ, they all inwardly sighed in relief for getting out of the freezing weather. Wish was facing one of its coldest winters ever.
As they stepped into Sunneth's office, Sunneth said, without turning around, "What. Is it."
Hail gulped, and stammered, "The-the sp-spies are here, G-General M-Mam."
Sunneth swiveled around in her chair and grinned even more evilly than Pine had. "Oh, they are, are they?" On her desk lied a note. It said,
The game is almost at a close, minions. Well played, dearies.
~~The Rebellion-Starter
Chapter Eighteen
The spies gulped anxiously. Sunneth was a fright to see, and almost everyone enslaved or working at the Mod HQ was extremely scared of her and her brutal ways, whether it was from endless torture or just plain scaryness.
WinterMynt began, "Well, y'see, General Mam, umm, the...the rebellers have moved on."
Sunneth opened her eyes wide, and her mouth dropped open. After being in a state of total shock for a few seconds, she shreed, "WHAT?!?!"
Heatfur nodded fearfully. "It's true. They left nothing." Heatfur smiled slightly. "The Rebellion has been put a stop to."
Sunneth grinned, with a manaical twinkle in her eye. "Great. HAIL!" she shouted. The moderator stood at attention. "Send these two spies to the dungeon. Their work is done."
Heatfur and WinterMynt imitated the facial gesture Sunneth had worn a little earlier. "But-" "You just can't-"
Sunneth sent them one of her scathing glares, and the ex-spies were immediately quiet. "You will do as told." she whispered to them in a deathly quiet voice. "OUT!" she shouted.
Hail carried the ex-agents by the scruffs of their necks out the door.
~~~
Later
Hail threw the two former spies into a damp, dank dungeon. "Have a nice stay." She evilly smiled, and shut the door brutely.
The two spies stared at each other. "Well, now what?" WinterMynt cried. Heatfur pushed her. "You idiot, we have walkie-talkies!" he shouted back.
Heatfur pulled out a walkie-talkie. "Lighting Storm, this is Firey Fur. Do you copy? Over." The reply was shot through with static: "Fiery Fur, this is Lightning Storm. We have you loud and clear. What's your position?"
Heatfur responded, "Well, the Brutal Sun seems to have gotten us stuck in a dungeon, Lightning Storm. It's dark, dank, and damp. We were thrown in here by FPP. Over." The response crackled out, "Fiery Fur, remind me who FPP is again? Also, that cell sounds familiar...Say, are there the letters "LS" scratched in a corner? Over."
Heatfur waved WinterMynt to do that, and said to LS, "The Cold Herb is checking that. And FPP is Frozen Pellets of Precipitation. Over." WinterMynt crawled back. "Those letters are there, Heat." she whispered.
Heatfur nodded, and added into the walkie-talkie, "Lightning Storm, that is true. There is an "LS" in the corner, or so Cold Herb says." The reply was ecstatic, without the noise. "That is the best thing I've heard all day, Fiery Fur. This means that you're in the same cell as I was when I was thrown in. It was where I discovered Blizz." Heatfur could imagine her grinning. "We'll send a dispatch there immediately. Over."
The ex-agents grinned. They were about to be busted out of the same jail cell as LS had, many, many months ago. It was almost like a dream.
Chapter Nineteen
A few days later, Heatfur and WinterMynt kept hearing a persistent tapping at the wall of their cell facing the outside, but thought nothing of it. Suddenly, the whole wall exploded. Out of the smoke and dust came Loudpaw, TZ and Aspire. They grinned. "Told you dynamite would work best." Aspire said gleefully. "Yea, but who was the one picking at the stones with her magic stolen sword?" TZ rebuked.
They all laughed. It was good to let out some steam. Loudpaw stopped. "C'mon, we have to get moving." she said imperiously, and she led them to the gates. When there, they could see Firestorm standing in the shadows from outside the gate. She slipped the key into the lock and opened the door.
The five rebels rushed out the doors, then Firestorm slowly and carefully closed and locked them. At a questioning glance from WinterMynt, she whispered, "The mods have moved their base closer to the gates. Best not disturb them." WinterMynt nodded in understanding.
Ten minutes later, they were back in the camp, in front of LS. She frowned slightly. "Good work getting them back, but dynamite may not have been the best approach." She pointedly glanced at Aspire, who blushed slightly. The ex-agents told their story, and LS's frown deepened. "This is slightly bad, as we could have used you two as tools against Sunneth and co. Nevertheless, we are adequately trained enough to outlast the opponent.
"Might I add that the tournament was yesterday?" She grinned. "The one chosen to go against me was Aspire." Aspire looked up and grinned before staring back down again at her shoes. "The final round will be tomorrow." LS added. "Go and get a good night's sleep. I have an announcement to make tomorrow, after the round."
Chapter Twenty (!)
All members of the army, which now totalled over 300, was watching the final round of the RT (Rebel Tournament), as it was collectively known around base. Aspire faced LS, her teeth baring. LS grinned back. "If you can beat me, I may just promote you," LS whispered to Aspire, low enough so nobody else could hear.
Aspire smiled slightly, her glare faltering. "I never knew there was a reward in...maybe I would have tried harder if I had known."
LS smiled back. The referee, Dreampaw, stood far back, knowing the dangers of one-on-one combat fencing. "Ready..."
LS smiled brighter. Aspire went back to glaring slightly at her.
"Set..."
LS whispered, "You have some extra dynamite? Because you're gonna need it." Aspire glared a little harder.
"GO!"
Fence, block, thrust, parry. The arms of the two opponents were a blur. Hardly anyone could see much. What was apparent, though, was that Aspire was slowly inching her way forward, forcing LS back. The crowd held their breath. Maybe someone could beat the legendary LS after all... The thought ran through each and every one in watching the spectacle, except the two fencers. Their thoughts were all on the game.
LS's feet got closer and closer to the stick-drawn line. If she stepped even an inch past it, she was out, and Aspire would have won. Their feet scuffled. Dust flew all around. Dreampaw leaned in, seeing what to call it for.
The dust, after what seemed like an eternity, cleared, and each spectator gasped. LS was crouching down, leaning back. At her throat was Aspire's sword. She panted, then Aspire let LS get up. They shook hands, and the crowd screamed. It was probably the most major upset in Rebel sports history. Everyone, even LS, was in a gleeful mood.
But the gleefulness, like a boat on a stormy sea, was about to be washed away by a giant wave.
Chapter Twenty-One
LS looked around the camp. People were scatted around Base, talking excitedly about the recent fight, and sharing stories, and laughing away. It was normal after a big event.
LS climbed atop to Announcement Box, and called loudly, "ALL TO THE BOX!" The Wish Rebels came running over, as fast as they could. LS usually didn't make an announcement until everything had settled down, so the army knew that whatever it was, it was going to be serious.
When everyone had gathered by the fabled Box, LS started speaking. "As you know, today Aspire beat me in a fencing match. I am not ashamed. Rather, I'm proud that someone has finally beaten me at my own game." LS smiled slightly.
"However, I'm proud for another reason. Proud because this means that the Wish Rebels are ready to take on the Mods." Gasps from everyone ensued, even Aspire. LS nodded grimly. "It's time. We'll storm the gates tonight. Bring your weapons and your armor; anything and everything will do. Healers--" she glanced at the Healers of the army, "you bring all of your medical equipment. Be ready."
She stepped down from the Box and walked away to her tent.
~~~
Later that night, at the Gates of Wish, the army stood quietly. Some carried torches. Others carried medical equipment. Most carried weapons of varying manner, from swords (LS) to battleaxes (Scary) to maces (Loudpaw). The members of the original Rebels stood in front, along with Firestorm. The red-headed mod stepped up to the lock, and slowly turned the key. The Gates creakily opened. Firestorm whispered in the night, "Follow me."
Soon, they were at Mod HQ. No lights shown in the windows of the extravagant mansion. LS came to the very front, with Firestorm again. Firestorm unlocked the front door, and opened it. LS stepped to the front of her army. "I am a person not fond of speeches." she said quietly. "So I shall lead you into battle with only two things in mind. The first: If you die, it shall be a death of honor. Don't be scared. The second..."
LS turned toward the open door, took a deep breath, and bellowed, "CHAAAAARGE!" and ran into the dark mansion. The army ran inside also, and once again, gasps filled the air.
Inside the foyer was an army of Wishians. Most looked dismayed or sad. LS guessed that they were being forced to do this. At the front of the Mod army was Hail, Firestar, and Sunneth, the beastly head herself. Sunneth smirked. "Welcome to Mod HQ," she said.
LS grimaced. "Guess your timing's gotten better. Well, then? Shall we fight?"
Sunneth grinned more. "Catch me if you can. CHARGE, MY MINIONS!" she shouted, before running away. The Mod army ran forth, as did the Rebel army. The air was filled with slashes of swords and blood flying.
LS ran to the side and up the stairs, catching a good viewpoint. Aspire was fighting Hail, and doing very well. Firestar and Firestorm slashed their swords at each other. Scary was busy fighting three pro-Mod fighters, twirling and spinning his battleaxe. LS could spy a few bloody bodies at his feet.
LS heard a hiss behind her. As she turned around, she saw a member of Wish behind her. Pepper, the one enslaved by Hail. "Time to die, Lightning." she whispered in a deathly quiet voice, hardly heard over the din of the battle. LS frowned. Pepper charged, her sword at the ready. LS easily parried the blow, and while Pepper was contemplating what to do next, LS hit the flat of her sword on Pepper's head. She collapsed into a heap on the ground.
LS then started searching the house. Ballroom? Nope. Office? Nope. Dungeon? Nope. As she was beginning to lose hope, a deathly quiet voice whispered behind her, "Found me, dearie." LS whipped around, and Sunneth was there. She was holding a large battleaxe. LS grinned. "Forgot your sword?" she taunted. Sunneth growled, and jumped to LS, holding her sword high above her head. LS stepped back.
Sunneth kept jabbing at LS, getting closer and closer. LS slowly led her to the foyer, which was oddly quiet. Sunneth shouted, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
LS turned around. Everyone had stopped fighting. Sunneth strode past LS and into the midst of the two armies. "WHY AREN'T YOU FIGHTING?!" she screamed. A scared Mod fighter stepped up timidly. "W-w-e don't want to fight our f-f-friends." he stammered uncertainly. Sunneth glared. "So you're just giving up, then? Well, at least I have my faithful minions." She glanced at Hail, Firestar, and Firestorm. Firestorm stepped forward. "I have already pledged my allegiance to the Rebelion." Firestorm stepped over to LS.
Sunneth scowled at her, then turned back to Firestar and Hail. "What about it, my faithful friends?" she cooed to the two mods left. Firestar
looked at Firestorm, across the room, then at Sunneth. She then said firmly, "I'm going with Firestorm." Firestar stepped over to her longtime comrade Firestorm. Sunneth scowled deeper than before, then turned to Hail. "Hail...my second-in-command, my best mod...Will you join me in pounding these idiots into dust?" Firestar and Firestorm gaped as Sunneth said the words. Never mind that they were against her, but those words stung.
Hail look dismayed. She looked at LS, then at the two former mods, then at Sunneth, then back at LS. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally said, "Sunneth. Remember the day you told us your master plan to take over Wish? Back then, I was younger, and more foolish. I followed you. Sunneth, you were my friend and commanding officer. You promised us glory. Wealth. Anything we could dream of.
"Well, we haven't gotten anything like that. All we've gotten is hate and fear from the Wishers." Hail looked at Pepper, who had woken and was standing by LS. "Pepper. Pepper, my best friend. Come here." Pepper came immediately. Hail said to her, "Pepper, I free you of your slavery. You and I are meant to be friends, not servant and master." She turned back to Sunneth. "You used to be my friend. Now, I don't know what you are." Glaring at Sunneth all the way, she stepped her way to LS.
Sunneth's scowl only grew. "Very well then. I shall fight you on my own. Who dares challenge me?" she cried to the heavens.
LS and the three former mods all walked up to her. "We do." they said together. Sunneth smirked. "Four Musketeers, are you? Well, prepare to die." She held her battleaxe high. Hail got out her mace. The Fire Duo unsheathed their swords, with LS. Pepper stood back. "ONGARDE!" Sunneth shouted, then lunged forward with her battleaxe raised abover her head. The three mods dodged, while LS countered her, parrying a thrust sent at her head and then getting a thrust near Sunneth's arm. Meanwhile, Hail raised her mace and hit Sunneth's head, just enough to stun her.While Sunneth was saying dimly, "...what...?" Firestar and Firestorm both thrust their swords into Sunneth's body. She twitched, then fell. LS raised her sword high above her head, and thrust it into Sunneth's heart.
Sunneth kept twitching and twitching. Dust flew as everyone leaned on for a close look at the dead behemoth. As the dust cleared, Sunneth's chest...fell off. Underneath was a mess of wires and cables, and a screen. On the screen was a stick note. "PLAY ME" it read. LS pressed the small triangle to the bottom of the screen. The small TV flickered with blue light. A figure stepped into the cameraview. He had short, brown hair with a few streaks of dark brown, and ice blue eyes. He was smirking as the same thought ran through the united Wishers' minds. HF?!
HF smirk grew. "Suprised to see me, dearies? I hope you've enjoyed my game."
Everyone's mouth formed the same "O" shape, then Pine stepped forth. She screamed at the screen, "GAME?! A GAME?! IT'S A GAME TO LET INNOCENT WISHERS DIE?! SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS DIED IN THIS STUPID, STUPID BATTLE!!!" Ripplepelt and Scary held her back as Pine launches a volley of kicks near the body of Sunneth. HF's smile grew even wider. "Well, then. That tells me something, dearies. Ever heard of a concept called real life?" Anger grew in LS's heart as HF laughed a cold, evil laugh. "You're quite childish, dearies. Nevertheless, I hope you liked the game. Any last questions?" He grinned.
Dreampaw stepped forward. "Yes, Mr. I-Can-Get-Away-With-Everything-I-Want. Where are you?" HF grinned. "Right under your noses." Squirrelflight came forth with another question. "Why is Sunneth's body filled with wires?" she demanded. "Look, I know how you act. I was your impostor in a previous game. You're probably on some Bahamas cruiseline." HF laughed his evil laugh again. "I wish, dearie. But that I will delve into more. It turns out, this Sunneth is a robot. The real Sunneth is locked away in the Jail. I dare you to find her, dearies." HF laughed. "That's all the questions I'll be taking now. Good-bye, dearies. And remember." His face grew dark. "Always watch your back. Always look around corners. Because someday I'm going to take over this city, and nobody will stop me."
"YOU CAN'T EVEN RULE A PICKLE, HF!" came the shout from the back of the crowd. As the screen turned dark, more jeers and jabs were shouted. As the teasing stopped, LS looked around. "Well, everyone." she said. "Let's go find us a mod."
~~~
Soon everyone was searching each corner of the Wish Jail. Nobody found a trace of Sunneth, until Pine found a locked stone door, with a password key at the center. She called LS over, and typed in a phrase: "flowerpower". It did the trick, and the stone door slid open. Inside was a bedraggled lump, with black hair. It was Sunneth. She looked up dimly and saw the two shocked Wishers. "You've killed my clone, haven't you?" she hoarsely whispered. "Good job." Sunneth then fainted.
Prologue
It was a dark and stormy night in the city of Wish. Howling winds blew through the conference buildings that made up the Warriors discussion, the Random Babble Hall, quaint little shops, and the Administration and Archives building. The A&A was usually locked, and no Wisher in their right mind would enter it. But this was an unusual day in Wish.
The four bodies hunched over a small, battery-powered lantern were all tall. Two had ginger hair, one had brown, and one black. They were discussing a matter of grave importance: Blizz, the supreme ruler of Wish, and how she would be taking a hiatus and going to Hawaii for a week.
"So she left? For sure?" the black-haired girl asked the other three cautiously. She was evidently the leader of the small group. "Yes, Sunneth," the brown-haired girl responded. "Good," Sunneth leaned back against one of the crates in the A&A. "We shall be rulers soon, won't we?" asked one of the ginger-haired girls.
"Of course, Firestorm," said Sunneth, through narrowed green eyes that were almost slits. Firestorm swallowed nervously, then tried to hide it by nodding. "There will be a rebellion, though," the brown-haired girl murmered thoughtfully. "The Wishers will obviously oppose our rule."
"Ah, yes Hail, but we can ban the rebels, can we not?" Sunneth mused. Hail still had a flash of worry in her eyes, but it was quickly gone, as Sunneth turned her gaze towards her. "Come, minions," Sunneth said, and stood up. Immediately, the three followers stood. "We must retire to our beds. But tomorrow, we shall rule Wish. And then...the world."
Chapter One
Lightningstreak looked down from over her balcony. She lived in an apartment building that the senior members lived in, despite the fact that she had wandered to the city of Wish only about 8 months ago.
Squirrelflight was down in a tree, as usual. Her red hair matched the tints of the clouds as the sun sank slowly below the horizon.
"Hey, LS!" Squirrelflight called. "What?" Lightningstreak shouted back. LS was one of her nicknames, along with Spazzy, Spazztastic LS, Lightningstreakizzle, and a few others.
"Did you hear the announcement? Blizz is going to Hawaii for a week!" Squirrelflight responded. "What?" Lightningstreak shouted, astonished. Why would Blizz ever leave Ww, even for a trip to Hawaii?
"I think they're doing the last of the announcements at the AS, so you'd better get there quickly!" Her words were lost as Lightninstreak dashed into her apartment, put on a white T-shirt and some blue jeans, and headed toward the AS.
The AS was actually the Announcement Stage, where the recent announcements were broadcast on the Stage there. The Stage had been built long, long ago, possibly even from the legendary Wish1.
At last, Lightningstreak found the AS. She had gotten lost a few times around this area before, and this was no exception.
A large crowd of Wishers were gathered around the Stage. Blizz's blue-streaked hair was shining in the sunset rays. "Wishers, I have good news! I have decided to go on a week-long hiatus to Hawaii!" Most of the Wishers cheered. Blizz continued on "Sunneth and the other mods will stay in charge while I'm away. It'll be just like normal!"
Lightningstreak was puzzled. Blizz usually wasn't this happy or care-free, unless she was planning something. Just as she was about to say something to Pine, another Wishers on her left, the crowd suddenly parted, revealing a guest. He had no nametag, short dark brown hair, and ice-blue eyes.
"Wishers! Do not listen! Sunneth is going to take over Ww in Blizz's absence! The city of Wish will be in turmoil! Those who defy will be banned for li--" He was suddenly cut off as Hail and Firestar gagged him and dragged him off. Pine rolled her eyes. "Nutjob," she said, annoyed. "Yes, a nutjob," Lightningstreak agreed.
But what if all he had said was true? What if the mods really would take over?
Chapter Two
Sunneth looked up from her desk. Sh was in the Wish Jail, built for banned members to live out their days, or at least until their ban was over. In the cell in front of her, the guest she had captured stood in front of her, glaring. She glared back through her green eyes. it was time for her to ask some questions.
She stood up and walked to the guest. After Hail and Firestar had dragged him to the cell, he was knocked unconscious. Now he looked bedraggled, limp, but most of all, irritated.
"Who are you?" Sunneth hissed to the guest. "I am a mystery, and someone you should know quite well," he replied, shrugging. The guest also smiled, showing perfect white, straight teeth.
"What made you think that me and the mods would 'take over'?" she asked, although it was obvious she wouldn't be answered. The guest made no response, as Sunneth had guessed. Each day, she had tried to ask him the same questions, and even with no food, he still hadn't given in.
Sunneth waved a warm loaf of bread right in front of the prisoner's face. He still showed no sign of giving in. "I will meet with you later," Sunneth said irritably, annoyed that her prisoner still hadn't given her any information. She walked down to the deepest, darkest, and dankest cell in the Wish Jail. In it was a lump that could barely be described as human.
The prisoner raised her head, the blue streaks just barely shining. "You'll...you'll never get away..with this," she said in a hoarse whisper. "I'll...escape...someday."
Sunneth turned and faced the prisoner. "No, Blizz," she whispered. "The Wishers will never find out about my plan, and if they do, it will be too late." She touched the pale face lightly with one finger. "I sent your replacement to Hawaii, but she'll never. Come. Back."
The face turned up. "What have you done, Sunneth? I thought I could trust you!" "Back then, maybe, but not now. Not now," Sunneth said in a deathly quiet voice.
Sunneth left Blizz there, and walked back to her makeshift headquarters in the A&A. It was time for a take-over.
Chapter Three
After the mysterious guest had been taken away from the AS, nobody thought about it much more, except for a few of the other guests, but no one cared about them. Often times, there were small riots in front of the big office building in downtown Wish where the mods worked, but they were often shooed away in a few minutes.
Days passed, then a week. The Wishers were looking forward to Blizz arriving back, but they waited at the dock in vain. Blizz didn't come back that day, or the next, or the next. It was a month after Blizz had left that the mods called an announcement.
"It has come to our attention that Blizz has been gone for one month," said Sunneth through a microphone at the AS. She stepped aside as Hail stepped up to the mic, her brown hair shining golden in the noontime rays. "It is evident that she will never come back!" she called to the crowd.
Gasps of surprise was the main sound in the AS after that statement, along with a few people fainting from shock. They were quickly taken to the nearby hospital as Firestorm continued the announcement. "We have decided that in her place, Sunneth will be leading administrator."
More gasps of surprise. Never, ever, in the entire history of Wish had a mod replaced an admin. "What's going on?" Dreampaw whispered to Lightningstreak, who was on her left. Lightningstreak just shrugged. She didn't know. Firestar stepped up to the mic. She was usually quiet, and this was no exception.
"Hail, Firestorm, and I will still be mods," she quietly said. In normal circumstances, she would have been barely loud enough to hear, but the added effects of the mic caused a few more faints. Scarynose, on LS's left, whispered to LS, "I hope that Blizz comes back. This is, well..." He left off, not sure how to finish the sentence.
"Scary?" Gloompace turned around from her seat in front of them. "I guess," LS nodded. She still wasn't sure what to do. Blizz, her ultimate role-model, was missing, possibly forever, and the mods had taken over Ww. LS hid her head in her hands. Could it really get any worse?
Chapter Four
Lightningstreak looked around. She was in front of Gloometh's shop. At night. She shook her head, exasperated. Would any of the other senior members in her apartment gotten pulled into this?
Around noon, when she had plopped back into her apartment, after being in a hot debate on whether Sol would train Hollypaw into manipulating other cats' minds, (actually, she had been the one who started the idea) she saw a small square of paper on the ground. It had been on her bed, but had fluttered down to the floor when she leaped onto the bed.
Lightningstreak looked at the note. You have been chosen to meet with other selected members in front of Gloometh's shop at 10:00 pm, Wish Standard Time. Be there. The note had no signature, no invisible writing, and the paper was of a normal variety.
So there she was, under a dimly glowing streetlamp, in front of Gloometh's shop. Suddenly, she heard small steps behind her. Lightningstreak whirled around, expecting a cloaked firgure with a bloody knife, but instead saw only Dreampaw. The two had been friends ever since Dreampaw came to Wish, which was soon after Lightningstreak.
"LS! W-what are you doing here?" Dreampaw said. "I...don't know," LS responded. Something was real fishy, and it wasn't the fish shop next to Gloometh's.
Before Dreampaw had a chance to respond, three more figures stepped into the small pool of light that the streetlamp shed. They were Pine, Scarynose, and Squirrelflight. So some seniors did get pulled into...whatever this is, Lightningstreak thought. If there were three people here who lived in the senior apartments, then it must be something big.
"Hey, guys! What's up?" Scarynose asked. His hair glowed orange in the streetlamp's wake, as did everyone else's. "LS? You the one organizing this whole thing?" Pine asked sleepily. LS could see that she had just woken up, probably by Squirrelflight.
"No, I don't know who is." LS responded. Two more shadows crossed the pool of lamplight as Moonpelt and Gloometh herself stepped up. "Hi, Moon! Hi, Gloometh!" Scarynose cheerily said. Moonpelt replied with an almost as cheery "Hi!" and Gloometh didn't respond.
Suddenly, a masked figure strode up to the group out of the gloom. None of the figure's body or face could be seen, except for two piercing blue eyes. "I don't have much time," he said. At least, they thought it was a he. The voice seemed familiar, somehow. "But I must warn you. Not all is as it seems. There will be a rebellion against those whom you trusted most." He swiveled his eyes around the group, setting his gaze on one at a time for a moment. His eyes last came to Lightningstreak. He quickly pulled his gaze back. "The one with lightning in her name, nature and heart shall lead the rebellion," he finally declared. And, just as soon as he came, he ran off into the night shadows.
Chapter Five
After the masked figure had run away, the motley group was in turmoil. "We CAN'T have a rebellion; we'll get banned!" exclaimed Dreampaw. "But we have too, the guy told us to!" said Scarynose. Away from the two members arguing over whether or not to have a rebellion, Squirrelflight and Pinefur. were debating who the masked figure was talking about when he said who would lead the rebellion.
"Well, if he said that it was the one with lightning in their name, then that rules out everyone but the few people with 'lightning' in their name." said Squirrelflight. Under the glow of the light, her hair was a dark gingery-orange. "Yea, but what if he meant just the letters in 'lightning', not the actual word?" Pinefur argued. "I don't think so, if this guy really meant it, I don't think he would make it hard to figure out." Squirrelflight said thoughtfully.
And, over in another spot lighted by the streetlamp, Moonpelt and Gloometh were thinking about why the guy was so familiar. "I think we've seen him before," Gloometh said quietly. "Probably. Let's think about the memorable qualities of this guy," Moonpelt replied. "Well, he had really blue eyes," put in Gloometh. "Right, right. And he was a boy," Moonpelt added.
LS was standing in a corner of Gloometh's shop, away from the others. She was quietly watching them bicker and debate. And then, like a brick hitting her in the forehead, she knew who was supposed to lead the rebellion. Who the masked figure was. And even possibly how the two were connected.
She immediately jumped up onto a stray box, and said, in as loud of a voice as possible without being heard, "Guys, stop arguing! I figured it out!" Everyone rushed over to the box she was standing on. "What? What?" asked Dreampaw impatiently. "Okay, so, first of all, that guy? The masked figure? Well, he had ice-blue eyes, right?" LS said.
"Right..." said Scary. "But why is that significant?" "Can you think of anyone really major in the history of Wish that had ice-blue eyes?" There was silence, then Squirrelflight said quietly, "HF? HF is the one that we saw?"
The silence was broken by the arguing of the group. "HF was evil!" Moonpelt said defiantly. "Or...was he?" said Pinefur quietly. Silence finally fell again as each member thought long and hard about whether HF was really behind it, and whether or not to trust him.
Gloometh padded up. "I think we should trust HF," she said in a voice that could barely be heard, even in the silence of night. Pinefur, Scary, and Squirrelflight immediately said "I agree with Gloometh," at the same time. "I don't know..." said Moonpelt. Dreampaw stepped over to her. "What's the worse that can happen?" she said to Moonpelt. Moonpelt said, "Alright."
"Now that that's settled, who's the one who's supposed to lead this rebellion?" asked Dreampaw, again, impatiently. "I can answer that too," LS said in a barely discerned whisper. "I am."
Chapter Six
"What?" Squirrelflight cried out, after the shocking silence had passed. "What?" she cried incredulously again.
"Squirrel, it's true. HF said the one who would lead the rebellion would be the one with lightning in their name, nature, and heart." LS calmly explained.
"Well, I for one believe that LS and HF were both telling the truth." Scary implemented. Squirrelflight sighed.
"I guess you're right," she admitted. "But this is so hard to believe. I mean, HF coming and helping us?" she said.
"I know it's hard to believe, but it's true." LS quietly said.
"Now all we need to figure out is who we're supposed to rebel against. Did you figure that out too, LS?" Moonpelt said snidely.
"Sorry, no." LS said, ignoring the sarcasm in Moonpelt's voice.
"HF said it would be against who we trusted most...Who do we trust?" Pine said.
"This group?" Dreampaw put in.
"Well, I don't think any one of us would rebel against each other..." LS said.
"Blizz?" Scary added.
"She's on hiatus." Squirrelflight said sadly. She had been basically best friends with Blizz before she disappeared.
"The mods?" Moonpelt said.
"THAT'S IT!" Scary exclaimed. "They're who we trust most. They technically took over since Blizz disappeared--"
"But what if Blizz didn't disappear?" LS interrupted. "What if she was taken captive by the mods?"
"And there's only one place here prisoners go..." Gloometh said.
"THE JAIL!" everyone exclaimed at once.
"By the way, guys, be at my 13th birthday party tomorrow, okay?" Gloometh added, giving invitations to everyone.
Nobody saw the person hiding behind the trashcan, eavesdropping to all of the group's exclamations. Quickly, she rushed back the the A&A, where Sunneth was standing. "Sunneth..." she panted. "They've caught onto us..."
"Very well," Sunneth said coldly. "We shall be at Gloometh's party tomorrow." she whispered in a deathly cold voice.
Chapter Seven
Lightningstreak woke, groggy. She realized that she was in a dark, dank cell. Why am I--Oh. Right. As she lied there in the silence of the prison cell, she reflected on why exactly she was there.
It had been a wonderful day on Gloometh's 13th birthday party. The weather was perfect. Everyone came. And LS even remembered to get a good present. It was perfect. Until the mods crashed the party.
The mods. they had come in full force, with their handcuffs and guard dogs and God knew what else. They had come, handcuffed all of the members involved in the meeting of a few nights before, and took them to the jail. Everyone knew someone had told. But who?
Lightningstreak looked all of the possibilities over. It couldn't be Pine or Squirrelfight, as they were LS's best friends, and she knew them too well. It couldn't be Dreampaw or Scarynose. LS knew Dreampaw too well also, and Scary had supported her from the beginning. Not Gloometh. She wouldn't want to crash her own party. Not Moonpelt. Even she wouldn't snitch on her friends.
Light came shafting through a small crack in the door, and LS squinted her eyes as one of the jail guards said gruffly, "New inmate for you." He tossed a small, limp bundle into the cell, and then the door closed. Lightningstreak looked at the small body, and gathered a few facts. Firstly, it was a girl. Secondly, she had been treated very harshly, wherever she came from. Thirdly, she had blue-streaked hair--Wait.
"It couldn't be," LS whispered in disbelief. But it was her. Blizz. A few hours later, Blizz woke up, as groggy as LS had been when she had woken up. LS peered at her.
"L-lightningstreak? T-that you?" she asked. Her voice was hoarse from screaming, long ago.
"Yes. It's me, Blizz." LS whispered back, her voice just as hoarse.
"W-why are you h-here?" Blizz said quietly.
"I...I was organizing a rebellion. Against the mods. But then someone snitched on us--"
"Us? There were," Blizz yawned, "more?"
"Yes. Me, Squirrelfight, Pine, Moonpelt, Scarynose, Dreampaw and Gloometh." LS responded
"But...who told you?" Blizz's voice was barely heard over the moaning wind from outside.
LS glanced at Blizz. It couldn't hurt to tell her, she decided. "HF." she declared.
Blizz was about to say something, when a small burst of light came from the ceiling. A cheery face leaned down. "Well, then, what are you doing down there? You need to lead the rebellion!" Scarynose called from the sky above.
Chapter Eight
LS opened her mouth, closed it, then opened it again. "What the--How, Scary? How?"
Scary smiled cheerfully. "Oh, there was a crack in the wall of the cells aboveground. From there, it was a simple matter of freeing every single prisoner, so that we can have a larger force. After all, they all pretty much hate the mods."
"Scary--" LS started, but then realized the genius of his plan. "Scary, you're a GENIUS!" she shouted.
"Why, thank you for the compliment. Now, let's get you out of there," Scary said brightly.
After they had helped LS and Blizz climb out, Dreampaw cried in shock, "BLIZZ?!"
Squirrelflight immediately pushed to the front. "B-blizz?" she whispered, barely heard. "Yeah." Blizz hoarsely said back. The two long-time separated friends embraced each other.
Meanwhile, away from all of the heart-warming junk, Scary and LS were talking about what had happened while LS had been prisoner in her dark cell. "Well, for one thing, the mods really did take over," Scary said. "And Pepper's now the slave of Hail."
LS shot him a stupefied look. "I thought they were best friends," she said, shocked and horrified.
"Well, they are, sorta. It's just that Hail orders Pepper around more," Pine implemented, as she was passing by.
"Ohh. What else has happened?" LS said.
"A bunch of people have been banished, too, for riots and outbreaks. The mods are in complete control," Scary responded, after a long pause.
"Like who?" LS asked, frightened if some of her friends had been banished. This was the punishment for the worst possible crime. Sometimes, if the crime was severe enugh, you would be banished forever.
"I don't think that many people," Scary said. "Of course, we were the first ones to be banished, but now we have a little help from the inside," Scary replied.
"Who?" LS asked.
Before Scary could reply, a girl with red hair stepped over to LS and Scary. She had been mainly standing on the outer edge of the group, not talking to anyone. "Me," the girl said quietly. "Me, Firestorm."
Chapter Nine
LS opened her mouth silently. Scary grinned. "Firestorm's agreed to help us with the rebellion. She'll be supplying us with inside information of what the mods are going to be doing."
"That's right," Firestorm said cheerfully. "I could also help you find out who ratted on you--"
"WHAT?!" LS shouted. Clearly, she was not stupefied by the appearance of Firestorm anymore. "Scary, did you tell her everything?" she demanded.
Scary lowered his head and quietly said, "Yea."
LS seemed about to give him a good lecture, but then sighed. "Well, I suppose it was a good idea." she reluctantly said, after a pause.
Firestorm smiled. "We've already figured out that it isn't anyone in your group." Her smile faded away. "Someone must have been eavesdropping on you when you were talking near Gloometh's shop."
LS nodded. "That seems logical," she determined. "But who could it be?"
Firestorm said, "Judging by how near the mod's base and the apartments are to the Shops area, it had to be either one of the mods themselves, or someone who lived in the apartments. Those apartments are mainly the home of people who have been here...about three to six months."
LS snapped her fingers. "Of course! It must have been one of those newbish newbs that fangirl the senior members. But who?"
Pine stepped up to the threesome. "Since you were speaking of it, how near is the mod's base? If we train hard enough, perhaps we can go there and maybe...oust the mods." she said quietly.
LS gave her a blank stare, then realization crept slowly into her brain. "Pine, you're a GENIUS! An EPIC, EPIC GENIUS!" She hugged Pine for about two seconds, then stepped on a stray box and called everyone together.
After everyone had settled, she said, "Okay, Pine just had a great idea. Those of you who are trained in the art of fighting with weapons or without--" She glanced at Scary, Firestorm, and Squirrelflight. "You'll need to train people. We're going to attack the mods' base, oust them, and then Blizz will be back in power. Who's with me?"
The chorus of "I's" was faint in the distance when a body ran from behind a crate to the mod's base. The figure was faintly visible in the darkening light, and soon reached the A&A. Hail was standing outside. "So Firestorm's turned traitor, eh?" she said, after the figure had reported what was seen and heard. "Well, we don't need her. And the little twerps are planning to fight against us and win? We'll see about that." She smirked as the sun slipped over the horizon, bringing a new night, and endless possibilities.
Chapter Ten
LS was walking briskly around the small camp they had made, outside of Wish. Once out there, the mods had no power over them, as their weapons only worked in the city. Plus, Firestorm had a key to open the gates, so they could get more food and water, when need be.
Squirrelflight was busily sparring with Moonpelt with no weapons each. As LS looked beyond them, she saw Scarynose teaching Adder, one of the freed ones from the jail, how to use a double-bladed battle axe. Next to them, Ripplepelt, another of the freed, was having a duel of swords with Dreampaw. LS stepped over to her just as Dreampaw stuck the point of her sword to Ripple's neck. "Checkmate," she said cheerfully.
Ripple nodded. "You have learned a lot, Dreampaw," she acknowledged. "Go and spar swords with Pine now. She's more advanced." As Dreampaw ran away ecstatically, LS stood in front of Ripple. "Hiya, LS!" Ripple said, grinning. "Need to talk with me?"
"No, I was just wondering if I could duel with you. Even I need to practice." LS said, a little embarrassed to be dueling such an experienced Wisher.
Ripple smiled from ear to ear. "Sure, LS. Just take this sword." She gave LS an old, dusty sword, with a yellow stone in the hilt, and a leather sheath. "I'm sure glad Firestorm is stealing these weapons for us to practice with," she remarked, as LS fastened the sheath to her belt.
"Of course. Everyone's happy." LS said, tying a last knot to her belt, then leaning up. "There, I'm ready." she finally said.
"Well, then, let's get started. On guard!" Ripple shouted the last two words as she thrust her sword towards LS's neck. LS easily parried, and as they dueled, parry, thrust, parry, she said, "Can't beat me yet, can you?"
"Well, it's just that I'm left-handed." Ripple said. As she parried one of LS's thrusts, she switched her sword to her left hand.
"Ohhoho!" LS said brightly, as Ripple dueled harder. "This is what I call a challenge."
Finally, LS thrusted, and Ripple's reflexes were too slow. The point of her sword just barely touched Ripple's neck. "Check and mate." she declared, after letting her sword droop to her side.
Ripple smiled. "Well, ya won. Go on out and play the master now." The master, AKA Firestorm, was pretty much the master of every single weapon they had. LS had no idea how she did it, but it was still epic.
LS stepped over to Firestorm, feeling that nothing could go wrong the next week, when they would start recruiting members in Wish for their army. The Wish Rebels.
Chapter Eleven
The following evening, LS called everyone beside the campfire, in the center of their tents. The campsite was pretty much normal, with about 10 tents, with 2 or 3 people sleeping in each. As everyone crowded around the fabled box where LS had met HF, LS started speaking. "Well, it's been good times, everyone. Would you agree?"
Everyone said 'Yes.' at that question. "Everyone's been trained in the ways of combat, to at least the Intermediate level?" Once again, a chorus of 'Yes's.' LS grinned. "Great. We'll be ready for any attack of the mods when we're recruiting others in Wish."
At that, everyone started shouting and asking questions. "Who's gonna go?" "Why are we recruiting them?" "I WANT MY MOMMY!"
"SHADDUP, ALL OF YOU!" LS shouted. "I have picked a small band of three or four to go, with me, into Wish. Firestorm, Scarynose, Dreampaw, Ripplepelt, you'll go with me. The rest will stay here. We're recruiting them for more people in our army. It was originally Briar's idea--" she glanced at Briar, one of the freed from jail, "to recruit Wishers. With the mods ruling with an iron fist, everyone must hate it. Does that leave any other questions?"
Everyone was silent. LS cheerfully smiled. "Good. Keep training until the moon's about 45 degrees high, or halfway to moonhigh. By that time's it'll be about 10 pm. Now go!"
Immediately, everyone ran off, scattering. When the dust cleared, the only people left were Scary, Ripple, Dreampaw and Firestorm. LS stepped down to meet them. Scary said, "So...right, what are we supposed to do?" "I think we should scatter ourselves about. Wishers have, no doubt, seen posters or the like up by the mods, telling them to kill us or some disastrous end." Dreampaw interrupted. "Well, that is a good idea, Dreamery." LS said.
Ripple brightly said, "We should take disguises, shouldn't we? I mean, what if a mod sees us?" "Well, I don't think we'll need them. The method is to stand in an alley. then wait for someone to walk by. You can figure out the rest, I suppose." LS said. Ripple looked a little downcast. "But I wanted a costume."
"Aww, Ripple..." LS cooed. "Well, you can have a costume, if you want. But you have to find it yourself." As Ripple ran off, LS said to the rest of the group, "Right, any questions?" All was silent. "Great. See you next week." she said cheerily.
Chapter Twelve
It was the day LS and the band would go into town. Everyone was excited to learn anything new of Wish, and also if their friends would come and join the Wish Rebel Army, currently 20 to 30 people strong. The army had picked up a few stragglers who had been banished to the outskirts of Wish, and whos help was most welcome. Included was Mistybrook, who was banned because she was Gloometh's sister.
LS was just getting ready, when someone stepped up to her. The body was wearing a big, fluffy purple hat, a pink feather boa, and...wait, no that was just Ripple in her outrageous costume. She had gotten in ready the night after LS told her she could, and had made it as un-like her as possible. Overall, LS thought it was fine, once you got past the huge purple hat.
Ripple stepped up to LS.
"Hi!" Ripple said brightly. "Do you like my costume?"
LS smiled. "It's totally unlike you and I think it looks horrible. That means that it's a great costume!"
Ripple grinned. "Lawl, LS. You're so funny."
Just then, Scary came over, in his usual jeans and black long-sleeved shirt. He was grinning like Ripple. "Something tells me nothing will go wrong today." he said cheerfully.
Dreampaw stepped over to the merry group. "HEYA, GUYS!!" she shouted. LS fell to the ground. "Oh, are you alright, LS?" Dreampaw questioned. She giggled. "I didn't know my shout was powerful enough to throw down the General of the Wish Rebel Army!" The title had been unanimously awarded to LS two days before.
Firestorm padded over, her steps light and easy. "Well, that's settled then," she said. "Let's go!"
The happy band of Rebels stepped to the gates. Firestorm inserted the key into the previously unlocked rusty gates of Wish. All was quiet as they stepped into the city. It was early morning, so no doubt the rest of Wish was asleep. Stopping at the now-familiar Gloometh's shop, LS whispered, "Okay, Ripple and I will head to the senior member's apartments. Scary, you and Dreampaw head over to the apartments for 3-6 month-old Wishers. Firestorm, you head to the 1-3 month Wishers' apartments. Good?"
The rest of the five nodded silently. LS had gone over the plan countless times before. LS smiled. "Great. meet back here at 5 pm, and bring the recruits. Then, we'll head out. Let's go!" She and Ripple ran off to the senior's apartments, looking just all the merrier on that fine day.
Chapter Thirteen
LS and Ripple looked around. Some wary-looking Wishers were coming out of the senior apartments, including Milkeh, one of LS's best friends. She gasped as she saw LS, and ran over quickly. "OHMIGOSH, LS!!" she squealed.
LS gave her her best glare. "Milkeh, you have to be quiet!" she whispered. "Not everyone is friends with me, and we have something to tell you." She drew the astonished member into a nearby alley, and told her everything that had happened, from when they had met near Gloometh's shop for the first time, to the crashed party, to the camp outside Wish. Milkeh opened her jaw a little more at periodic intervals in the telling.
When LS was finally finished, Milkeh said incredulously, "Wow, so you really met HF? And you escaped Jail?"
LS and Ripple nodded. Milkeh turned around. "WOAH WHO'S--" but before completing her sentence LS had put her hand over Milkeh's mouth. "Shaddup, that's Ripplepelt with her disguise." LS hissed. Milkeh nodded. LS smiled. "Now, let's go and find some more Wishers!"
~~~
~~~
Lightningstreak, with Ripplepelt and Milkeh, looked around at the meeting place. It was 5 pm on the nose. Where was everyone else?
Suddenly, Scarynose and Dreampaw stepped up, along with about fifty recruits behind them. He smiled at LS's astonishment. "What can I say? They came willingly."
Firestorm then padded over to the recruits and the band. "I didn't get that many people, but Aspire here--" She gestured to Aspire behind her, "--somehow managed to steal Sunneth's prized sword." Aspire and Firestorm both grinned at LS opening her mouth, closing it, and then opening it again.
LS moaned. "And all I got was Milkeh...Not to say you're not useful, Milkeh!" she hastily said, as Milkeh expression turned sour.
LS said to the rest of the group, "I'm sure we're all going to do our part in fighting this war. If we lose, we face tyranny and submission. If we win, we face freedom and joy, for the first time since the Take-Over. Now, who's with me?" As everyone shouted their agreement, two figures scuttled from behind nearby boxes, rushing towards the A&A, which had been recently renovated into the perfect HQ for the mods.
Chapter Fifteen
Sunneth smiled as her two spies told her everything that had happened at the meeting at the Gate. However, when the spies got to the part where Aspire revealed Sunneth's sword, they stopped abruptly. "You tell her." one whispered. " No, you."
Sunneth frowned. "What is the meaning of this?" she demanded of the cowering spies. "Whatever it is, tell me NOW!" she shouted in the cavernous room. The three were in the massive ballroom that Sunneth had installed, as she thought it was more...stately.
Sunneth was planning things for Wish. Not just things like enslaving them all. Oh no. She wanted to make a profit, too. So she would start building a factory, that made cheap merchandise for anything. Of course, she and the other mods wouldn't do the work. The Wishers would do it, except for those traitors. They would get...special treatment.
The power-hungry moderator was catapulted back to the present when one of the spies announced, "Well, General Mam, it's just that...your sword has been..stolen."
Sunneth stared in shock at the two spies, but then recovered herself. "Stolen? STOLEN?!" she shreed to the skies. The two spies, cowering at her feet, nodded.
Sunneth frowned again. "Well, don't just stand there. GO GET THAT SWORD!" she cried. The two agents ran off immediately. Sunneth laid back against a couch and relaxed. "Those rebels think they stand a chance? Ha!" she muttered.
~~~
~~~
Later
Hail threw the two former spies into a damp, dank dungeon. "Have a nice stay." She evilly smiled, and shut the door brutely.
The two spies stared at each other. "Well, now what?" WinterMynt cried. Heatfur pushed her. "You idiot, we have walkie-talkies!" he shouted back.
Heatfur pulled out a walkie-talkie. "Lighting Storm, this is Firey Fur. Do you copy? Over." The reply was shot through with static: "Fiery Fur, this is Lightning Storm. We have you loud and clear. What's your position?"
Heatfur responded, "Well, the Brutal Sun seems to have gotten us stuck in a dungeon, Lightning Storm. It's dark, dank, and damp. We were thrown in here by FPP. Over." The response crackled out, "Fiery Fur, remind me who FPP is again? Also, that cell sounds familiar...Say, are there the letters "LS" scratched in a corner? Over."
Heatfur waved WinterMynt to do that, and said to LS, "The Cold Herb is checking that. And FPP is Frozen Pellets of Precipitation. Over." WinterMynt crawled back. "Those letters are there, Heat." she whispered.
Heatfur nodded, and added into the walkie-talkie, "Lightning Storm, that is true. There is an "LS" in the corner, or so Cold Herb says." The reply was ecstatic, without the noise. "That is the best thing I've heard all day, Fiery Fur. This means that you're in the same cell as I was when I was thrown in. It was where I discovered Blizz." Heatfur could imagine her grinning. "We'll send a dispatch there immediately. Over."
The ex-agents grinned. They were about to be busted out of the same jail cell as LS had, many, many months ago. It was almost like a dream.
Chapter Nineteen
A few days later, Heatfur and WinterMynt kept hearing a persistent tapping at the wall of their cell facing the outside, but thought nothing of it. Suddenly, the whole wall exploded. Out of the smoke and dust came Loudpaw, TZ and Aspire. They grinned. "Told you dynamite would work best." Aspire said gleefully. "Yea, but who was the one picking at the stones with her magic stolen sword?" TZ rebuked.
They all laughed. It was good to let out some steam. Loudpaw stopped. "C'mon, we have to get moving." she said imperiously, and she led them to the gates. When there, they could see Firestorm standing in the shadows from outside the gate. She slipped the key into the lock and opened the door.
The five rebels rushed out the doors, then Firestorm slowly and carefully closed and locked them. At a questioning glance from WinterMynt, she whispered, "The mods have moved their base closer to the gates. Best not disturb them." WinterMynt nodded in understanding.
Ten minutes later, they were back in the camp, in front of LS. She frowned slightly. "Good work getting them back, but dynamite may not have been the best approach." She pointedly glanced at Aspire, who blushed slightly. The ex-agents told their story, and LS's frown deepened. "This is slightly bad, as we could have used you two as tools against Sunneth and co. Nevertheless, we are adequately trained enough to outlast the opponent.
"Might I add that the tournament was yesterday?" She grinned. "The one chosen to go against me was Aspire." Aspire looked up and grinned before staring back down again at her shoes. "The final round will be tomorrow." LS added. "Go and get a good night's sleep. I have an announcement to make tomorrow, after the round."
Chapter Twenty (!)
All members of the army, which now totalled over 300, was watching the final round of the RT (Rebel Tournament), as it was collectively known around base. Aspire faced LS, her teeth baring. LS grinned back. "If you can beat me, I may just promote you," LS whispered to Aspire, low enough so nobody else could hear.
Aspire smiled slightly, her glare faltering. "I never knew there was a reward in...maybe I would have tried harder if I had known."
LS smiled back. The referee, Dreampaw, stood far back, knowing the dangers of one-on-one combat fencing. "Ready..."
LS smiled brighter. Aspire went back to glaring slightly at her.
"Set..."
LS whispered, "You have some extra dynamite? Because you're gonna need it." Aspire glared a little harder.
"GO!"
Fence, block, thrust, parry. The arms of the two opponents were a blur. Hardly anyone could see much. What was apparent, though, was that Aspire was slowly inching her way forward, forcing LS back. The crowd held their breath. Maybe someone could beat the legendary LS after all... The thought ran through each and every one in watching the spectacle, except the two fencers. Their thoughts were all on the game.
LS's feet got closer and closer to the stick-drawn line. If she stepped even an inch past it, she was out, and Aspire would have won. Their feet scuffled. Dust flew all around. Dreampaw leaned in, seeing what to call it for.
The dust, after what seemed like an eternity, cleared, and each spectator gasped. LS was crouching down, leaning back. At her throat was Aspire's sword. She panted, then Aspire let LS get up. They shook hands, and the crowd screamed. It was probably the most major upset in Rebel sports history. Everyone, even LS, was in a gleeful mood.
But the gleefulness, like a boat on a stormy sea, was about to be washed away by a giant wave.
Chapter Twenty-One
LS looked around the camp. People were scatted around Base, talking excitedly about the recent fight, and sharing stories, and laughing away. It was normal after a big event.
LS climbed atop to Announcement Box, and called loudly, "ALL TO THE BOX!" The Wish Rebels came running over, as fast as they could. LS usually didn't make an announcement until everything had settled down, so the army knew that whatever it was, it was going to be serious.
When everyone had gathered by the fabled Box, LS started speaking. "As you know, today Aspire beat me in a fencing match. I am not ashamed. Rather, I'm proud that someone has finally beaten me at my own game." LS smiled slightly.
"However, I'm proud for another reason. Proud because this means that the Wish Rebels are ready to take on the Mods." Gasps from everyone ensued, even Aspire. LS nodded grimly. "It's time. We'll storm the gates tonight. Bring your weapons and your armor; anything and everything will do. Healers--" she glanced at the Healers of the army, "you bring all of your medical equipment. Be ready."
She stepped down from the Box and walked away to her tent.
~~~
~~~
Soon everyone was searching each corner of the Wish Jail. Nobody found a trace of Sunneth, until Pine found a locked stone door, with a password key at the center. She called LS over, and typed in a phrase: "flowerpower". It did the trick, and the stone door slid open. Inside was a bedraggled lump, with black hair. It was Sunneth. She looked up dimly and saw the two shocked Wishers. "You've killed my clone, haven't you?" she hoarsely whispered. "Good job." Sunneth then fainted.
